Description
Overview
PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a synthetic cyclic peptide derived from the melanocortin family of signalling molecules. It was developed through research involving alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH) analogues and represents an important example of how naturally occurring peptide frameworks can be refined into specialised research compounds.
Unlike peptide analogues primarily associated with peripheral endocrine targets, PT-141 became scientifically significant through its relationship with central melanocortin receptor systems. Its cyclic structure and modified sequence provide an experimental model for investigating peptide architecture, receptor interaction and neuroendocrine communication.
Published scientific literature has investigated PT-141 across melanocortin peptide engineering, receptor biology, neuropeptide signalling, molecular pharmacology and central nervous system research.
