Overview

SS-31 (Elamipretide) is a synthetic mitochondria-targeting tetrapeptide developed from the Szeto-Schiller class of aromatic-cationic peptides.

Designed as a research model for investigating mitochondrial biology, cardiolipin interactions and intracellular energy systems, SS-31 was engineered to preferentially localise within mitochondria rather than interact primarily with cell-surface receptors.
